In 1991 our core group, purchased Bosell Salad Company, Changing the name to Bosell Foods, Inc. to reflect the addition of various products that would be gradually added to the line. Bosell had been a fixture in Cleveland since 1927.At the same time, the Brookside label was purchased along with all of the original recipes. This was then brought back to Cleveland.
Brookside/Bosell has long been synonymous with quality and integrity in Cleveland. At this time, the company entered into a period of aggressive expansion with the addition of an energetic sales force, an active advertising campaign and state-of-the- art equipment to enhance production and efficiency.


Because of our good name, hard work and customer relations, it was not long before other companies came to us to represent their lines, thus Gateway Specialty Foods was born. We are the in house brokerage for the manufacturing arm of our company.

At this point in time we represent approximately 23 various lines that not only include meat, deli, bakery and seafood, but also, grocery and non-foods. We are also a "Value Added" organization that is capable of offering our customers private label services from concept to end-user.

 In April of 2000 we were acquired by Bernie Polen, president and owner of Alexander & Hornung, Inc. of Detroit, Michigan.We became the Cleveland sales office and manufacturing plant for them.

Alexander & Hornung has likewise been producing hams, sausages and other deli meats for over 55 years. Family owned and operated, now in its third generation, Bernie Polen has led Alexander & Hornung into the year 2000 with expanded manufacturing facilities and now a new distribution center.
